I also bought the most recent addition of Onion Newspaper because I had seen some of their 'News' online and thought it absolutely hilarious. (everybody should see the documentary Sicko from the opinionated but always enlightening mind of Michael Moore) Any who, I bought this because it offers an educated and independent outlook on the subject and the effect it would have on the economy. I also believe that health insurance companies are one of the most damning things to the American public. It makes much more sense to go into debt saving lives than to go into debt through war. I believe that if we can spend the billions upon billions of dollars overseas for war, then we can surely spend what would now be considered a fractional amount (compared to military spending) on making sure the people who live and work in the US no matter what their income are treated equally when it comes to who can or cannot afford medicine that they need to live. This interests me because I am for universal health care. I also bought The Independent Review (a journal of political economy)because there is an article entitled 'Health Insurance before the Welfare State - the Destruction of Self Help by State Intervention'. I'll blog more about this book as it is being read. It is also one of the main reasons I enjoy the book so much, because I can relate to Loftus's story. The fact that the book is his own story of deconversion from the christian faith instead of a generic 'why you should reject christianity, an be an atheist like me!' type of book is most likely the main reason I bought 'Why I Became an Atheist'. I absolutely love Loftus's honesty in the beginning of his book when describing the circumstances that caused him to begin questioning his faith. I think my main reason for desiring to be so 'Christ-like' in high school was that it was the cool thing to do while still being regarded as mature or morally good by parents of friends or acquaintances.
